[TREND] The sunglasses of summer

You can’t make it through the summer without a good pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes from the blazing sun, and we wouldn’t suggest you try it. There are so many fun styles in right now that work for anyone! Here are a few of our favorites so far:

1. aviators

Gucci Aviators

Aviators are a timeless classic, and lots of brands are putting their own spin on these glasses this year. These are from Gucci.

2. wayfarers

Ray-Ban Wayfarers

Ray-Ban Wayfarers are in this season, and they come in tons of amazing styles. We love the beachy feel of this pair.

3. cat eye sunglasses

[trend alert] NEON

It’s almost spring, and the season’s trends are starting to surface. We’re particularly excited about the neon trend, but blindingly bright shades can be intimidating. We all want to be trendy, but without committing a faux pas! Here’s how to wear your neon right… without blinding your friends.

neon jewelry

Accessories are a great way to brighten up your outfit without taking the neon too far. Try a bright pink collar necklace, a bright yellow wristwatch, or a set of neon bangles.

neon nails

Nail polish is a subtle way to embrace this trend. Neon is in so bright colors are everywhere - just choose your favorite shade (or mix and match)!

neon shoes

Bright shoes are a bolder way to use some color. With such attention-grabbing shoes you’ll need a great pedicure to pull this off - if they’re open-toed, that is.

neon swimsuits

neon bikini

Neon swimsuits are not for the pale! Make sure you have a base tan before donning your bikini - but once you have it, the neon will make it pop.

neon bags

Bags are a staple accessory and a great way to show off your fashionable side. Choose a bright purse or a neon work bag to pull this off!

neon eyeshadows

Neon eye makeup is tricky, but if you get it right, it can be stunning. Check out this tutorial for some tips!

It’s almost laundry day, so all you have left in your closet is a plain tshirt and solid-colored pants. Not to worry, though, if you’ve hopped on this great new trend: collar necklaces (or chokers). These big-statement necklaces can spice up any otherwise dull outfit.
You can pick up collar necklaces anywhere from H&M to Neiman Marcus. Check out our favorite splurge-worthy choker below, the Aesa ribbon collar torque with pearls, $1265.

Trend Alert: Colorblocking
Nope, we’re not talking about making things out of colorful toy blocks. Colorblocking is in, and it’s all about fashion.
Colorblocking means pairing two or more brightly-colored solid pieces of clothing for visual effect. For example, one of the girls around the CakeStyle office is wearing magenta pants and a bright orange sweater today, and it’s a great colorblocking look!
All you need is a few of your summer pieces (maybe that bright yellow cardigan, cerulean t-shirt, and cranberry skirt) to wear together to get in on this fun winter trend. It’s a great way to keep your wintry days from getting dull with all those dark colors and neutrals, plus you can re-use the great pieces you wore all summer – no need to put those away in storage, thanks to colorblocking!

Check out this beautiful Polyvore for more colorblocking ideas.

Trend Alert: Magnetic Nail Polish
One of my nail-polish-obsessed friends showed me this new trend a couple of weeks ago and I thought you CakeStylers might enjoy it too.
It’s magnetic nail polish. All you have to do is paint a generous layer of this special polish on each nail (you can get a bottle at Sephora, among other places – several brands are doing this now) and hold the magnet over it while the polish dries, doing one nail at a time. It’s a little time-consuming, but you only need one coat, and it looks like you spent hours meticulously curating those silvery stripes. Only you’ll know that it took you all of 15 minutes.
Here’s an instructional YouTube video if you want more information. There are also instructions on the bottle. Enjoy! : )

New trend alert: dip-dying
CakeStyle founder Cecelia pointed this new trend out to me, and I had to share it with all of you. It’s called dip-dying.
It pretty much makes your hair look like you dipped the ends in a bucket of colorful paint. If you’re blonde, you can go straight to dying it in all kinds of colors (my favorite combination is pink, turquoise and purple – peacock colors!); if you, like me, have dark hair, you’ll have to bleach the ends first. It might not be the best idea to try this on your own hair if you work in a law firm, but if you have a spare set of hair extensions you could dye that to rock this look on weekends. Or you could always wear your hair in a bun every day!
Here’s a great how-to on dip-dying from Free People! Would you try dip-dying? If so, be sure to show us some pics when you’re done!

Heeled Loafers are going to be BIG BIG BIG this fall.

Biella satin high-heel loafers

Here are a few examples from J.Crew, Dolce & Gabbana and Michael Kors.

I can’t not mention Balenciaga’s over the top take on the trend. What do you think? Too crazy for the office?
