Elements of Style | Technology

No matter how sleek and well designed your technological gadgets look on their own, you’ll most likely want cases to protect them from nicks, scratches and cracks. But you also have to be careful not to ruin the good looks of your device with a bulky, unattractive case. The bottom line: dressing up your gadgets is as much a part of your style as dressing up yourself!

Here are some of our favorite cases, skins and stickers:

iPhone cases

We love these classy, monogrammed iPhone cases - the gray and blue go especially together well.

This isn’t a case - it’s actuallyaa replacement iPhone back made of real wood and custom engraved. You can choose your type of wood and the design you want engraved!

This case looks like the work of a scrapbooker! We love the layering of various beautiful patterns - there’s so much clashing that somehow, it all matches.

iPad cases

We love Tory Burch and the color pink, so naturally we adore this case! The leather logo is a nice classy touch too.

We love iPad cases that disguise the device as something else, such as this one from DODOcase. With this cover on, your tablet will look just like a leather-bound journal!

eReader covers

Kate Spade accessories are always girly and fun, and this Kindle cover is no exception.

This homemade cloth case for eReaders is handy for storing your device and any necessary accessories. We also love the cute floral pattern!

laptop covers

More flowers! It must be a springy kind of mood today. We love this simple laptop skin in its soft colors.

We love this laptop sleeve - it’s simple and elegant, but the textures make it interesting. This is perfect for a business meeting or in any professional environment.

These simple monochromatic floral decals can dress up any laptop, and they’re removable so you don’t have to worry if you have a change of heart.

Elements of Style is a type of feature on the CakeStyle blog. Great style isn’t just the things you choose to wear, but the items you carry, the food and drinks you serve, how you decorate your home, and much much more. At CakeStyle, we understand that clothing is only one part of your personal style, so in these posts we aim to discuss the other elements that help make up who you are.

Elements of Style | Nails

A lot of your personal style is what you wear, and that includes what you wear on your nails. At CakeStyle, we’re all obsessed with finding fun new ways to do our nails, so we wanted to share some of our favorite looks with you. Try out a new one you’ve never seen before - trust us, these are all simple! We’re busy, just like you, and we love quick and fun nail ideas.

neutrals

As far as we’re concerned, neutral nails are always in. Tones of pale pink, beige or off-white are subtle, feminine, and always beautiful.

connect-the-dots

We love the fun geometric shapes on these nails, especially for a weekend look. This is an easy way to spice up a plain color!

one-of-a-kind nails

If you have a little patience and a lot of time, try this tribal look. It might be time-consuming, but nails that are all unique can be gorgeous.

matte finishes

Matte is in, but don’t worry! You don’t have to replace your entire collection. Try picking up a bottle of matte finish to bring this trend to any color.

extreme glitter

This glitter might be a bit extreme for the workplace, but anyone can use it to let loose on the weekends! Remember, the bigger the glitter pieces, the bolder the look.

glitter tips

Want some glitz, but not too much? Try painting a fine glitter over a similar color, just on the tips. Use more glitter on the tips to get this look.

adjacent shades

To get this unique look, try painting each nail with a different shade of a certain color (pink and purple work great). Spice it up with some different textures, too!

newspaper nails

Are you a word junkie? Try transferring newsprint to your nails! Check out this easy how-to video to get this look.

Winter Trend: Colored Tights

This season, colored tights are all the rage. Stores are carrying everything from mustard yellows to hot pinks and forest greens. But how do you use this fun trend in the office? We’ve got a few handy tips for you.

1.      Stick to muted colors. Deep plums, olive greens, and navies are all perfect shades to wear to work.
2.      Make sure your outfit matches. Pair a plum-colored top with plum tights or an olive cardigan with olive green tights – don’t go crazy with the color blocking at work. Neutrals are also a good go-to.
3.      Wearing a black pencil skirt and black pumps with your muted tights is always a safe bet, except perhaps with navy tights. Navy goes well with light gray.
4.      This tip applies to all tights: never, ever wear ripped tights to the office. Even if the hole is barely noticeable or your skirt will cover it, be warned that the hole could expand with the slightest touch.
5.      Whenever you wear tights to work, carry clear nail polish in your bag. It’s perfect for quickly patching up a snag and preventing a complete tights meltdown.

Stick to these tips and you’ll be ready to rock this office-friendly trend.

We’ve found a great new site: OpenSky
I know what you’re thinking: another social media / daily deals site?? Yes, yes it is, but this one is unique. OpenSky is like a combination of twitter and Gilt Groupe; the founders have collected a group of 80 experts in food, style, health and design to give you tips and curate a discount shop of their favorite products. I’m already following Molly Sims, Cynthia Rowley and Bobby Flay, and I’m looking forward to seeing the products they select!
It gets better: join through this link and get a $10 credit to spend on the site. Yay, free money! Enjoy :)
